A group of concerned people got together several years ago to lead the effort to develop a state food strategy, grounded in networking, local control, and collective impact. In September 2014 the Lakes Region Food Network co-hosted a community conversation, along with the GROW LR Planning Group*, to solicit input from different sectors of the community regarding food security, food access, and related issues for our communities. The results of this event, along with results from 9 additional gatherings held across the state, were incorporated into a report (to be released soon.)
The state initiative is now known at the NH FOOD ALLIANCE, and work has begun on a state-wide food strategy initiative, with the initial focus on farm and food business viability. This effort links with numerous other food system sectors and issues, so watch for more information about how we envision our work going forward.
Participation in the NH Food Alliance offers you the opportunity to:
- help shape a state-wide Food Strategy to better our food system
- learn about trends, data, challenges, and innovations related to food in NH
- network with others across sectors
- and identify some actions for reaching our food system goals

*The GROW LR Planning Group is a cross-sector group working on a planning grant relative to increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables by young families of limited income here in the Lakes Region. The grant is a Lakes Region HEAL (Healthy Eating, Active Living) initiative, and was awarded by the Healthy NH Foundation.
